Biography

Joanne Brunel is a French language educator who has taught in Francophone and French Immersion programs over the past 20+ years. Her most recent work with Central Okanagan School District #23 has allowed for rich experiences as she provided pedagogical support in roles within the Early Learning, Instructional Leadership and French Language Learning teams. As the French Language Coordinator for the district, she focused on networking the French language educators, collaborated to establish a French language leadership team and facilitated professional development opportunities and resource accessibility. She is very interested in exploring innovative, French language rich, learning environments that encourage student agency, promote collaborative learning and recognize individual differences in the hopes of making additional language learning accessible for all students. French early literacy, numeracy and inquiry are among her varied interests that continue to drive her ongoing research.

Responsibilities

As the Southern Interior French Educator Network Facilitator, she will be networking the French language educators from across the Southern Interior region, providing opportunities for professional development, creating opportunities for pre-service and in-service educators to learn and collaborate with each other as they strive to continue to grow high quality, accessible and student centered French language programs across the region.
